Michael Arrington To Leave Techcrunch: Rumors swirl on possible replacement

EMBARGOED UNTIL 12/31/08
Michael Arrington is stepping down from his role as Editor in Chief of Techcrunch. In a shocking capitulation to the harassment of PR firms, Arrington informed CEO Heather Harde of his decision earlier today. Reached for comment at his home in Atherton, Arrington said "I can't take it anymore. I prefer to have a shoe thrown at me like George Bush rather than drown in the deluge of PR wonks and their stupid press releases."
Harde sent this embargoed press release over just a few minutes ago with the embargo date above. I debated with myself for the last 5 minutes whether to respect it and then just hit "publish post." by accident.
Arrington, often the bad boy of internet blogging will be missed by many for his outspoken nature, crass graphics and industry changing policies. We could not reach any PR people for comment as they were under embargo.
Rumors have been swirling in the blogosphere and at the top of techmeme on the posts of others who have broken the embargo. Possible replacements for Arrington include: Robert Scoble, Jason Calcannis (who wants the other 50% of the revenue from the techcrunch 40/50/60), Chris Shipley of Demo and Jerry Yang.

I Wish Arroganton would place an embargo on his mouth and keyboard. The man took the technology reporting industry to such lows in terms of conflict of interests and general rude behavior that I honestly wish your little joke would someday turn out to be true.
Great post Michael. I laughed out loud when I read it...
Quite bizarre the whole thing anyway.
